Do You Know Why Your Student Falls Asleep In Class?

“Why can’t my son or daughter stay awake in class?”

As parents, we probably hear this statement more times than we really would like to.

Simply put:

Because, like other teenagers, they need at least 9 hours of sleep per night, and they are only getting 6!

If your student is falling asleep in class, it’s absolutely natural! According to recent research, teenagers actually need extra sleep, more than their younger siblings, and more than adults. In fact, teenagers natural biological clocks push them toward later bedtimes and later rising times.

1.Teens who get fewer than 9 hours of sleep per night may be sleep deprived.

2.Teens who are sleep deprived are at high risk for car crashes, poor performance in class and at work, mood swings, and other problems.

3.Drowsy driving is a significant factor in fatalities on the road.

Only one solution is effective in the long run: more sleep!

HERE IS YOUR WAKE UP CALL

Sleepy teens can be a danger to themselves and others especially on the road. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about 26% of car crashes involve drivers under the age of 25.

Many teens may be experiencing a significant problem with sleepiness.

Sleep-deprived teens are likely to perform poorly in school and sports, be moody and may have trouble in social situations.

AS A CONCERNED PARENT, I KNOW YOUR NEXT QUESTION IS “HOW CAN I HELP?”

Convince your son/daughter that sleep is not just a luxury; it’s as important as eating and breathing.

Explain that drowsy driving is as dangerous and as avoidable as drunk driving. Help your student manage his/her schedules so that they have time for adequate sleep.

Brainstorm techniques for building sleep into their busy schedules.

Encourage them to find alternatives to driving when they’re feeling drowsy.
With the start of the new school year upon us, and also as the father of a teenage daughter, I do share your concerns. I would also like to help.

When my good friend Claus D. Jensen & I set out to create “The Sleep Secret Audio’s” it was our intention and still is our intention to help whoever we could clear and remove sleep loss, insomnia, sleep deprivation and whatever other sleep disorders we could with our sleep audio.

Creative Lady Discovers How To Eliminate Her Sleep Loss

Greetings,

I received this letter from my good friend Tam, I send her big hugs for sharing her story.

Enjoy her story.

So I was born a Virgo.  For those of you who don’t know the traits of this most auspicious sign Virgo’s are about productivity and perfection.  When I set my mind to a project it is nose to the grindstone and no looking up until it’s complete.

My last product was a 60 page e-book called “Love Notes from UnSeminar 6” How it happened was a whirlwind. I spent a long weekend in San Antonio, Texas taking notes at a fabulous internet based seminar. I took detailed notes, us Virgo’s don’t miss a beat.  I wrote like a fool.

When I got home from the trip I took one day off and then dug into rewriting and editing those  notes in to a compilation of great information that anyone getting started in internet marketing ( Link to Pat O’Bryans’  upcoming Unseminar 7 ) could use.

I stayed focused on the writing and editing until it was done.  It took approximately four days of hard work.  Then, I had to market this thing.  Another four days of writing sales copy ensued.  I must follow through, right?  Right.  So, I spent the next week or so doing all the technical jazz that I could do and then I sent the detailed pieces to my tech support gal.  I made phone call after phone call to her to get her on it and get it done.

While all of this  was going on I was making side notes of ideas as they came up.  WOW! I now have a six page list of projects and ideas that I want to flesh out and work on, but what’s a Virgo to do but go with the flow?!

And what does this have to do with the Sleep Secret AudioEverything!

While I was in San Antonio I met Trapper Sherwood.  This gracious transplanted northeasterner with a downeastern-southern drawl slipped me his Sleep Secret Audio CD.  (For the record, Trapper Sherwood is a lovely combo of Maine meets Tennessee).  I guess he noticed the dark circles under my eyes.  All I could give him in return was a smile and a thank you.

You see, every night while at the seminar in Texas my mind was racing with ideas, my nerves were shot and though I was dog tired laying in my bed I was wide awake.  I was too restless to sleep. I knew I need help.  Trapper’s sleep audio offered the help I needed.

What an amazing thing this sleep audio is.  The first time I listened I fell asleep in no time at all. I actually can’t tell you how quickly it happens for me now.  I only know I’m rested again.  I’m soothed, at ease and readily fall into deep slumber.  It’s bliss.

For a person like me, who others call “Speedy Gonzales” an audio that actually works to get me to sleep FASTER, well, you have to know I appreciate that.

Virgo, Capricorn, Aries, it doesn’t matter who you are it only matters that you are rested so that you can be productive during your days.  I’m producing now more than ever.  Go to my newest website and find a children’s book  www.mollykite.com that you can read to help your child sleep with peace in their heart.

Enjoy Sleep Secret Audio.  I need to get busy, I have more things on my list that I need to get done.

Tam I Am

Thank You Tam!

Epworth Sleepiness Scale

Greetings,

In conjunction with our blog post from last week; “Sleep Deprivation Causes and Consequences” today I want to add the Epworth Sleep Scale.

In contrast to just feeling tired, how likely are you to doze off or fall asleep in the following situations? (Even if you have not done some of these things recently, try to work out how they would have affected you.) Use the following scale to choose the most appropriate number for each situation.

0 = Would never doze
1 = Slight chance of dozing
2 = Moderate chance of dozing
3 = High chance of dozing

Situation                                               Chance of Dozing

Sitting and Reading                            __________________

Watching TV                                        ___________________

Sitting inactive in a public place (i.e. theatre)                         ___________

As a car passenger for an hour without a break                     ___________

Lying down to rest in the afternoon                                           ____________

Sitting and talking to someone                                                     ____________

Sitting quietly after lunch without alcohol                             ____________

In a car, while stopping for a few minutes in traffic            ____________

A score of greater than 10 is a definite cause for concern as it indicates significant excessive daytime sleepiness.

We all know how important sleep is. Sleep deprivation can put your personal safety and security at risk and lead to accidents or death. Please use the above scale to determine your sleepiness and do something about it.

Remove sleep loss, and insomnia from your life.

Take action and do something about it now!

Sincerely,

Thomas “Trapper” Sherwood

17% Of Parents Battle This Sleep Loss Issue, Do You?

Greetings,

According to a KIVI-TV TODAY’S CHANNEL 6 NEWS report, one in six parents say they have at least “one child that has a difficult time falling asleep at night”

Here is what their report found.

“Researchers studied the daytime activity and sleep patterns of hundreds of seven-year-olds by giving them activity monitors to wear for 24 hours.  They found that children with the highest levels of activity during the day fell asleep the most quickly at night.  But every hour spent in sedentary activity increased the time it took the children to fall asleep by an average of three minutes.  In addition, children who took longer to fall asleep slept for shorter amounts of time.  The study points to the importance of activity not only for physical fitness but also for healthy sleep, which is critical for many aspects of well being including overall brain health.”

Knock Out Your Sleep Loss With The Sleep Secret Audio

Greetings,

How can you “Knock out sleep loss with the sleep secret audio‘s”

Let me tell you about a little story about myself.

Now this just took place last night.

Imagine as you or I was the case, laying down in your bed to fall asleep. As my head head hit the fluffy goose-down fill pillow last night, I was more than ready to fall fast asleep. But that is really not what happened.

You see, as I lay there bundled & wrapped up in my sheets and blankets, (I love doing that, have since I was a kid, do you do it too?) my mind started wandering. I started thinking about a couple classes I had taken over the weekend, wondering how I could use my newly gained knowledge to help a couple of my existing clients out, and how it could help put a few extra dollars in my wallet.

Then I got to thinking about some upcoming bills that need to be paid.

Ah Ha!

That was the moment!

I knew if I didn’t do something right then & there, I would be tossing & turning ALL night.

Know what I mean?

Has that happened to you before?

C’mon, shake your head yes, I know it has. It happens to most of us. That is how millions of people are affected by sleep loss.

To much thinking as we lay down at night.

Guess what, we are in bed!

We can’t do a darn thing about it if the electric bill, or mortgage is due in three weeks,  three days, or even tomorrow!

What we do need it a good & natural way to fall asleep, and stay asleep at night.

We need to be fully rested, and rejuvenated the next morning when we wake up so we can go and perform at our peak.

So just how did I go about getting a good night’s sleep?

A sleep that was deep, full of vibrant dreams, and when I awoke this morning I was feeling fresh & rejuvenated.

I inserted the earphones from my ipod and turned on the Sleep Instructions that come with The “Sleep Secret Audio.”

By the time the track was over, ( each of the four tracks are 11 minutes long) I was fast asleep. Seriously, no kidding.

I admit it, sometimes even I have problems falling asleep, but when I feel those signs coming on, I reach for my “secret weapon” against sleep; The Sleep Secret Audio‘s.”

You can too.

To get a good night’s sleep; all natural, no pills, and without the use of  harmful and sometimes addictive drugs, please click over to http://www.sleepsecretaudio.com

You can have immediate access to downloading the sleep audio‘s, and you too can experience the bliss of falling into a deep, restful and peaceful sleep, and wake up refreshed and rejuvenated and ready to tackle the day’s activities.

Nutrition And Sleep, Do You Make These Mistakes?

Greetings,

Today’s post is the first time I have done something like this on this blog. Today I am very happy to introduce a guest blogger; Sheila Atwood. I am very happy and thrilled that Sheila accepted my invitation to do a guest post, and I think you will find her post interesting and valuable.

Nutrition And A Good Nights Sleep

Does stress and anxiety cause you to stay awake and worry? Are you in need of a good nights sleep?

Putting attention on the care of your body needs helps to alleviate stress and anxiety.

Water, protein, carbohydrates and fats are the essential nutrients the body requires. Vitamins also play an important role and the imbalance or the need for a particular vitamin can cause problems. For example the lack of vitamin C causes scurvy. The lack of vitamin B1 the nervous disorder, beriberi.

A good balanced vitamin regiment

Vitamin A 10,000 IU / Vitamin D 400 IU

Vitamin E 400 IU

Vitamin C 500 mg

Multi- mineral – with trace minerals 2 tablets

B complex 500 mg.

Having nightmares? Or restless sleep?

Take and extra 100 mg of B1 about 1 hour before bed.

A good nutritional regimen

  1. § Eat plenty of fresh raw fruits and vegetables.
  2. § Eat lean proteins; fish, chicken, lean beef.
  3. § Eat good fats; cold presses olive oil, grape seed oil and flax seed oil.
  4. § Eat whole grain cereals and bread.
  5. § Drink eight to ten glasses of water a day.
  6. § Stay away from processed foods.
  7. § Stay away from sugar.

Now I know you have heard all of that before. So start out with the simple things you can do right now and work on the rest. The key is to make it simple.

Eat fresh and make all of your carbohydrates count. Sugar and white flour are empty calories and deplete the body’s immune system.

The three parts of man are body, mind and spirit. Good nutrition will take your attention from your body, giving more power to the mind and spirit.

Start today to make the needed changes in your diet, nutrition and environment to alleviate stress in your life.

To a good nights sleep,

Sheila Atwood

Greetings,

Over the course of the past few months I have received some pretty cool testimonials for http://www.sleepsecretaudio.com

If you haven’t seen them, they are located about halfway down on the page at http://www.sleepsecretaudio.com

But today was a little different.

As I checked my stats for the visitors to the site here, I noticed traffic, lots of traffic coming from a new link.

Curious as I am, I clicked it, and here’s what I found.  http://www.busymom.net/reviews/2009/05/sleep_secret_audio.html
Busy Mom, a local blogger from Nashville steps up to the plate and hits a home run with her very favorable review of the Sleep Secret Audio’s.

She basically writes about how she took the audio’s and plays them how they are intended to be played.

No special coaching, no tips on how to use the sleep audio’s, she literally just Pressed Play, Then Slept!

Just like we have been saying all along.

As the creator of The Sleep Secret Audio’s, it does give me great pleasure to know that when people with sleep problems such as sleep loss, insomnia, sleep deprivation and other sleep disorders try our products, they really do what they say they will.

Watch What You Eat Before You Sleep

Greetings,

Did you realize that eating before bedtime may be one of the causes of your insomnia?  The fact of the matter is, having too much on your stomach whenever you go to sleep can cause some serious sleeping problems.  The reason why this is the case is because it kicks in our digestive process and does not allow our body to get into the deep state of sleep that we really need in order to wake feeling refreshed.  Does that mean, however, that all eating should be banished before we go to bed?  The answer might surprise you.

Many of us feel that it is good to be able to eat a big meal before we go to bed because it makes us lethargic and tired.  What we don’t realize, however, is the science that is going on behind that lethargic feeling.  Whenever we eat the wrong kinds of foods, it releases a lot of sugar at one time into our bloodstream.  In response to this onslaught, our pancreas is going to release insulin into our blood which is what causes that lethargic feeling.  Yes, we may be able to fall asleep but our sleep is going to be shallow and may even be interrupted as a result of this chemical reaction.

It is a good idea, however, to eat a light snack before you go to bed.  You should make sure that it is going to be something that is easily digested and is not going to cause any problems with excess sugar in our bloodstream.  If you’re going to eat a couple hours before you go to bed, a little bit of bread will do nicely.  If you are eating closer to bedtime, you might want to consider eating some fruit.  Make sure that you don’t just eat any fruit but choose fruit that is lower on the glycemic index.  This will keep the sugar from being released into your system to quickly.

If you are careful with what you eat before bedtime, you will find that you are able to sleep much better as a result.  As a matter of fact, you might be able to cure your insomnia by eating the proper foods before you go to bed.  Don’t be afraid to experiment a little bit with the types of foods that you are eating.  Finding the right combination that helps you to sleep will be a blessing, indeed.

Sincerely,

Thomas “Trapper” Sherwood

You Too Can Get Better Sleep through Diet and Exercise

Greetings,

You have probably been hearing that you need to watch your diet and get some exercise for the better part of your life.  The fact of the matter is, this can do more than to help us to stay fit and trim.  If we are dealing with sleeping problems and insomnia, a proper diet and some exercise can go a long way in helping us to get a good nights sleep.  How is this the case?

If we are eating a balanced diet, our bodies are going to be in balanced as a result.  Almost everything that goes wrong with us can be traced back to an imbalance in our body of some sort or another.  Making sure that we are not overloading our body with things that it should not contain, such as sugar and stimulants is going to go along way in allowing us to relax and get a good nights sleep.  As a matter of fact, sugar is often at the root of sleeping problems that we are experiencing in some way or another.  Get rid of this poison from your house and see how much better you will feel as a result.

Getting exercise can also help you to sleep because it is going to put your body into a relaxed state.  Although it may not feel relaxed during the time that you are exercising, it has many different effects on your body that will cause it to feel that way after it is over.  For example, exercise releases serotonin into our system which helps us to feel good naturally.  If we are having a difficult time sleeping because we are stressing out, the additional serotonin may be able to help to balance the situation out.

Of course, getting the right amount of exercise and eating a proper diet is also going to help our body to be tone and fit.  A lot of us are having problems with our sleep because we are overweight or just out of shape in general.  Being in shape will not only help us to feel good about ourselves, it will help to improve the quality and quantity of sleep that we are receiving.  It may take a little bit of time for you to accomplish this but believe it or not, diet and exercise can do wonders for anybody that is suffering from insomnia.
